My comments on Meta’s ‘smart’ glasses headlined a report in The Times which sparked a national debate.

AI smart glasses enable users to record video in public without our knowledge or consent. No longer niche, they are increasingly common and are being used to abuse and harass women and girls.

I commented that:

‘For women, these are not 'smart' glasses, but a real threat to our everyday lives.’

I explained that in my experience ‘most women won’t see smart glasses as exciting new technology, but as more new tech to be used to violate us and disrupt our everyday lives.

I also raised concerns that the AI in the glasses could be altered to include nudify technology, as well as facial recognition, with extremely worrying implications.

This report led to many women coming forward to share their experiences of being filmed without consent and the recordings uploaded to YouTube and other social media. They were then often subject to abuse and harassment. The Home Secretary also raised concerns about this technology. I spoke on BBC TV and radio about this, as well as to media around the world including Dubai radio.
