A new report for BBC News Scotland has highlighted the rise of deepfake pornography, where ordinary images or videos are superimposed onto pornographic videos. Professor McGlynn spoke to the BBC to warn of an emerging ‘epidemic’ of deepfake porn being created and distributed without consent. The BBC spoke to one victim, who had participated in Professor McGlynn’s research, about the harmful and lasting impacts on her.
